I recently visited the brasswind showroom in South Bend to try out instruments.
Their catalog described the VMI 3302 BBb as "one of the best piston BBb tubas on the
market". However, the instrument was largely unimpressive. The high register was rather
stuffy, and numerous notes were so far out of tune that no combination of slide pulling seemed to fix it (both flat and sharp; the strobe tuner in the room recognized some notes as different notes a half step above or below what they should have been). I even had
received one reference to this horn from someone on this site, so I was pretty baffled
at the results. Anyone else have experience with this horn?
