I have not had any experience with the 3302 but have had much playing time on the five VMI 3301 4 piston valve tubas that have been purchased by the school district for which I teach. The quote you mention is pretty close to what I have said time to time and I still stick to that. All five horns that I mentioned all have the same tuning tendencies with me and I get an extremely even blow across all registers up to Bb two octaves above the staff (4 leger lines above). The tuning isn't just me as all my students that play those 3301's have substantial control over tuning and register. I could not figure that a 5th valve would cause so much of a problem if that is in fact the problem. Are you sure there was not a 20oz Coke bottle stuck in it :)) j/k. Did you happen to blow a 4 valve version for comparison?
