How do you guys evalute the controversal opinions about the quality of vintage tubas/sousa over modern (recently made) ones; and in this context the question in consequence: How about the thick brass of the "good old days" in comparison with the thin
brass tubas of nowadays production as far as the sound quality is concerned?
I found, it is hard to get some OBJECTIVE statements, since I heard many "advocates" who argueed either from one or from the opposite point of view.
If it is really better to optimize the quality by modern computer design and production procedures, why the heck are then hand made horns still so desirable?

Thanks in advance for clarifying. I am really very interested to find out the facts about this topic - besides all subjective, personal affections.

Cheerio, Volker
