the main slide should move the least out of the slides....
to change the 4th valve by a few cents, you are adjusting the total length of the horn with the 4th valve. So to lower the 4th valve, you need to move more slide, to make the ratio of length enough to amount of tubing needed to lower a pitch by a given percentage.
