I'm sure you've heard of Philip Catelinet, the LSO (?) tubist who first premiered the Vaughan Williams Concert in 1954. (I've heard a recording made the following day.)

There are others, too, and Bevan discusses many along with showing pictures of quite a few. I don't have the book handy and don't recall the specific names, but I do recall that they all played the Barlow-style F tuba that was conventional in England at the time. In the latest edition of The Tuba Family, Bevan was particularly interested in the history of that type of tuba and in tracking their current whereabouts.
