If your rotary valves have accessive end-play (rattle up and down, because they are old and worn), they will tend to bang up against the top bearing when you quickly depress your finger spatulas and rotate the valves. The sudden stop against the piece of rubber or cork prompts them to move vertically very suddenly, as a way of transferring energy.

If this is the case, no linkage repair will make these valves quiet.

This problem can be solved by having someone with a high level of skill take material away from the back end of the rotor casing (or from the removable bearing plate, depending on the design of the casing). This will allow the removable bearing to be hammered in closer to the rotating rotary valve and to eliminate the vertical travel which causes the clicking noise.

In the meantime, you might increase the viscosity of the oil that you are using on the end bearings of the rotors. Try 30W motor oil.
