You can easily blow a note a full half step in either direction. Why would you move the slides around? I play my CC with the main tuning slide out only about 3/4 - 1 inch out and play at the same pitch center as the guy next to me with the slide out 3-4 inches. How is this possible? Because you can blow pitches just about anywhere you want to.

Perhaps the placebo affect of moving the slide in causes one to play sharper and pulling out the opposite. I used to move my slides all over the place, but was later shown how the left arm in that high a position to reach the slide cuts down on proper inhalation and the action itself can be a cause of tension.
