Funny you should mention this. About a week ago, I was asked by the teacher of a music theory class if I owned an Eb tuba. I said that I did and she asked if I could come in for about a half hour to assist on a class project. I asked why an Eb tuba was necessary and she said that it was a class exercise in transposition. The idea was that the class would transpose for various Eb instruments.

When I explained that (with the exception of brass band parts) tuba music was always written at concert pitch, she didn't believe me. After another tuba player verified my story, she looked terminally confused. "But how do you use an Eb tuba to play C tuba parts?" was the question. "Use a different set of fingerings". Incomprehension.

I think she got a student to play the part on BBb.
