I'm with you on the JVC reissues. Unfortunately at $25 to $30 per disc, they'll be a hard sell to most people, UNTIL they've been heard. Everyone I know who's heard them has recognized their clear superiority over prior issuings of these performances. And wait til you hear the Reiner Pictures and Scheherezade.
And who was taking issue with Fritz aside from the Concerto for Orchestra? Well, I think in many cases, Fritz could take a warhorse like Marche Slav and create an epic out of it, and there was the basic approach, based on pulse, time, and the illumination of inner voices neglected by most other conductors, and merely noodled at in other orchestras.
