I've been considering building a tuba with an ascending whole step 5th valve. That would take a CC tuba and put it in DD. The D and C# above the pedal C become true pedal register notes which theoretically would improve their response. It might open up some other interesting possibilities. Have any of you seen a tuba with an ascending valve? I know that some horn makers have used this concept. Any thoughts on pros and cons of the system?
