Hi,

Improv is a very good idea. Wish I'd thought of that at your age. But if you're definitely classically and performance oriented, now would be a good time to purchase some etudes. ESPECIALLY Rochut/Bordogni, but also Kopprasch, Blazevich, Gregoriev, and Arban methods (the trombone version is the least cut up). If you're looking for solo material, check your state solo and ensemble list and start digging in to the harder works. Your private teacher would definitely answer your question better than me. If your teacher is not a low brass player, it's probably time to start looking for a pro that plays the tuba, or at the very least, a trombonist.

Thanks,
Aubrey
