I did say typically. I've seen upright 2XJ bells between 22" and 24". Most of the ones I've seen were the smaller ones. Conn bell size did vary and could be varied by order. 38K sousaphones could be had with bells from 24" (apparently the standard in the 20's) to 26" (standard in the 30's and on the later 20K, which of course is just a 38K with the short action valves) to 28" (standard on the 48K Jumbo sousaphone, but up to 30" bells could be had on the 48K).
