Good for you! That register must be learned, but once you do it is not a big deal to play down there any more.
I have found that the physical feedback I get from a rotary F tuba generally does not match up with the actual sound - ie., the "low C" range may seem like a chore, but after recording and listening to it, it sounded much better than it felt to me while playing it.
Keep up the good work "flapping"!
