I really opened a can of worms here, and quite unintentionally.
I think the York tuba analogy is a little over the top!
In any case, this LP is no longer available. I do have a chance to buy a copy on eBay. Would people prefer I did that? That's netting the previous owner of the LP $20 and the original artist or present copyright holder exactly nothing.
The stuff I was offering for trade is from my own collection of 78s. Stuff from the 'teens and '20s....compilation CD material. I can't see this being the same as the Mattheson Tuba Jazz situation. I'm not offering a copy of a living artist's recent CD in exchange for a copy of another living artist's CD.
If I do wind up getting a CD-R copy of the Bill Bell LP, I'd be happy to send Mr. Phillips his royalty. Give me his contact address.
I just spoke to Art Hovey about buying a copy of his CD that he advertises, and I got a copy of the Vandals' CD after hearing the "Play That Country Tuba" track; I'm the last guy who should be accused of stealing.
This simple inquiry really got blown out of proportion!
Sincerely,
Steven, Who Is All For Artists Getting Their Royalties.
