Here's what I'm pondering these days...
Our school quintet may be going to California in February, and I'm trying to decide how to take my tuba. I haven't had to leave it out of my sight yet while traveling, and I'm wondering if it's practical to keep it that way.
If I can use a bag, I'll be able to use a second seat for it on the plane. But, it would have less protection than a hard case when it goes into the rental car/van/dump truck. But, it would be a lot easier to run around with.
A hard case would offer more protection at all times, but I have to trust the baggage handlers of the airline. That means that I couldn't keep watch over it, and that simple fact bugs me. I do have a good molded plastic case (a friend has flown her PT-6 in an identical case with no problems), but I wouldn't mind getting a Walt Johnson case for this.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Leland
