Play A in second, then in first with the trigger for a friend with his back turned, and I guarantee that he'll like the regular position A better. The great majority of professional orchestral trombonists have no problem tuning their instrument to an A, and I've never seen anyone do it with A in 1st/1st valve. It's a matter of KNOWING your instrument, something we all strive to do.
