It's just for those times when you can't single tongue fast enough to play the notes.

the usual way of learning it is to first learn to do the "Gah" or "Kah" just as cleanly as you can the "Tah" or "Toe" that you usually start notes with. Like, learn an etude tonging the notes with "Kah." That will be kind of hard at first.

Then....learn to play, slowly, with every other note the Kah sound, so you are playing Tah Kah Tah Kah. (Or Toe Koe Toe Koe). Really fast stuff...tigga tigga, kitty, kitty, you get the idea. I actually use TU KU TU KU, but I'm a horn player.

THen it's metronome time, and you speed it up, keeping it clean. You can do this just on scales; it's easier to learn the tongue technique on a single note before you start mixing in fingering.

If your Tah and Kah sound the same....you are doing it right.
