I wouldn't teach kids to use a "diaphlegm" vibrato. They're likely to get confused and take short cuts to get results. You don't want them messing with their airflow to get a false vibrato.

I would have them use a jaw vibrato and practice it with the Arban's book (or any other simple, musical melodies). The songs in there are perfect. Also, you can use it during warm up while playing long tones. Speed up, slow down, widen and narrow... play around while doing the warm ups. Get familiar with the feel and the sound. I would have them work on it secifically during these exercises and just let it naturally enter their playing as they feel comfortable. If they are listening to recordings, it will come natural (if they know the physical concept).
