Sorry if you think it will be snobbish, but you have to get over that demon you have. hate to say it, but only sucks bands play popular music on the field. The very best of the band programs program challenging and interesting music, make it fun, and teach something in the process. Sorry, but Saturday in the Park will never carry the same weight as Beethoven's 9th. From an educational standpoint, pop music is just to easy to be considered a real challenge when you consider what they need to be learning for an academic music standpoint. These are music students. no one really cares if the only people that watch are friends and family. Thats the way it is anyways. marching bands do not have to be popular and mainstream to be educational. plenty of bands out their play msuic that is educational and fun and make a great show.
