My disagreement has more to do with the use of the term "monger", and it's negative connotations. I'm not defending the spreading of the rumors to this board, just defending the way they're viewed. The rumors spread to this board because of a few people who heard them as just that, rumors, and wanted some truth. No malintentions, as(to me) the term "mongor" would imply. As for any alleged damage being done, I can't really see any in this scenario... people praising Mr. Deck's playing, wishing him well, becoming generally concerned... I'd be touched if the same sort of scenario happened with me as the subject.
If the rumor were more along the lines of "I heard a rumor that the tubist in the Calamityville Symphony was arrested for beating his wife", or "the XYZ Brass Band has an opening because so-and-so killed one of his students" then it'd be a different story.
