If it is the OLD model (with the horizontal main tuning slide), those instruments require that the player really KNOW that instrument and its quirks. Roger Bobo, on his first Crystal Records l.p. (surely still available on c.d.) used that instrument on several of the pieces.

I become very annoyed with the way that some assign "purposes" to models of tubas that I believe to be reasonably versatile, but with this model I think I would only personally use it to play certain solos. (btw, I spent a good bit of time with one of these, but never owned one.)

You should try it out thoroughly before buying it. (Sorry for the lame-o "fits-all" comment, but it is particularly true here.) This instrument surely is small enough to "go" U.P.S. If you are not within commuting distance, would they allow a trial?
