I would have to strongly disagree with this statement. Have you ever tried practicing for 6 hours a day, every day, for a year or two? If you could keep the mental focus to do this than it would be nearly impossible to fail. Efficiency in practicing is not a bad thing, but to paraphrase the automotive quote, "nothing replaces displacement". Volume of practice hours make a huge difference in abilities. I challenge anyone to practice for 6 hours per day, every day, for 2 years and not land a job. I feel fairly confident in stating that doing so is a near impossibility.
