I have the '88 CSO/Solti recording. I love everything about it except for the last movement. I think it goes too fast. The quick interpretation has gotten me into trouble at a couple of auditions. The Adagio is incredible, and you can really hear the 1st Wagner Tuba (Daniel Gingrich I believe) soaring above the orchestra. Jake's sound with the quartet of tuben is plush..."What is this, velvet?"
I would say get this recording, but be careful of copying the interpretation of the last movement.
