I picked up an old York 4 valve Bb tuba for my son today at a flea market (I didn't pay a whole lot for it). It is approximately 30" high with an 18" bell. Originally it was nickle or silver plated but most of that has worn away. Does anyone know how I can identify the age, model etc. of this horn? The forth valve was rigged to not work and when we looked at we noticed that it is almost imperceptably out of round as though it had been dropped at one time. Can this be fixed? Apart from the damage to # 4 valve and the fact that I have never seen so much dirt in one place, I think it is quite serviceable. My son played a few notes on it and it has a beautiful clear ringing sound at the high notes. Any info or advice would be appreciated.
