I don't want any subsidies for my type of culture. I sell pornography. I make lots of money. I even pay my workers well. Some of them use the money to support their drug habit, but that's not my business. I would do better if prostitution were legal, lots of demand, but to do that now I would have to move to Nevada, and I don't like the heat. The culture that is not subsidized by government is obvioulsy better than the government subsidized one.

I don't know what the art scene would be like if government didn't subsidize culture (libraries, art museums, orchestras, theater groups, ballet, opera, etc.). I'm not sure I'd like to find out. Maybe if government didn't subsidize business (airlines, road construction that helps the auto industry, police and a court system that protects private property (sometimes), sports stadiums, etc., we would all be better off. Then everyone that had money might spend that money on things that created jobs. Or maybe people would join together and create some outside agency to distribute the money for them, sort of like what we have today.

Who knows that governement is not perfect, but it's what we've got, and we don't seem to be doing too badly.
