Hi Crystal

I have done quite a bit of experimentation on multiphonics and have written and performed a few pieces which utilize them as a technique.

I performed one of my pieces, Inner Voices, at the NeRTEC last month. It is a simple repeated song structure based on theme and variation.

When playing the piece I actively control at least 3 pitch sources - lip vibration, voice and timbral quality, which can also be played as a pitch. The resultant tones bring in a full spectrum of tones which allow many other pitches to be heard. I also can vary which source I emphasize by 'placing the voice forward or back in the oral cavity, and switching from normal voice to falsetto. In order to balance dynamic of the lip vibration with the the other pitch sources I use a straight mute.

I hope this helps.

Ian
