I have always had difficulty with the upper range of the tuba. I think this may be in part becaue of the physical shape of my mouth, which is rather small (I once had a trumpet player tell me I could never play tuba because of it, even though I had been playing for 5 or 6 years at the time!). This often makes it difficult to maintain a good embouchre in the upper registers. But this shouldn't prevent me from producing a big, clean sound when I am playing in the upper range.

I have used several approaches to overcome this, and they all seem to work for a few months, and then it's almost as if they 'stop' working.. I'm back to where I started, only more frustrated. If any of you have any advice or tips that have helped you in your approach to the upper register of the tuba, please share! (You can post or email me).

Thanks!!!
