Hello to you all.

I am a band director in a very small Texas community that happens to be blessed with a large number of tubas (relative to the size of the ensemble). We currently have 10 tubas to support a 97 person marching band. Our band is using Sousaphones (Conn 14Ks I think). I have a student who aspires to one day be a professional tubist, and is quite good, and he, in a conversation with me, mentioned something to the effect of "playing a sousaphone has negative effects on a player's ability." He mentioned some specific things, but then directed me to this BBS service. SO, to my question: Does playing a sousaphone have ANY effect (positive or negative) on a player's ability to play (any aspect thereof)?

Thanks for having a service such as this one!
